Emeryville has recently received widespread commendation for installing seating at every one of the bus stops in the city. The effort, led by Mayor John Bauters after observing a rider having to lean against a trash can while waiting for the bus, and implemented by the city’s public works department, the simple seating has solved of transit riders most frequent complaints: no place to sit while waiting. See Streetblog USA post: https://usa.streetsblog.org/2022/12/21/what-it-takes-to-put-a-seat-at-every-bus-stop-in-town/
The seating is manufactured by Simme-Seat (https://simmeseat.com/products/). A typical seat on is shown below (location unknown).

SacRT is undertaking a Bus Stop Improvement Plan (SacRT Bus Stop Improvement Plan) with Civic Thread. The draft plan looks at a portion of the more than 3000 bus stops that SacRT has throughout its service area, identifying existing conditions, and making recommendations for improvement. What does not seem to be part of the plan is quick-build improvements such as Emeryville did with these types of seats.
STAR recommends that SacRT do a rapid installation of low cost seats at all bus stops that have not been identified for higher quality improvements, and that they do this now. Of course, seating should not be just the responsibility of SacRT. Transit and transportation should be responsibilities of the cities and county as well, and they should be contributing purchase and/or installation for stops within their jurisdiction.
What do we have now? Too often, bus stops like the one below. At least it has a trash can, though it has no seating, not shelter, and is not even remotely accessible by anyone with a mobility device or limited mobility.
