We wrote earlier on transit vehicle wraps. In response to a letter, SacRT said that the current bus wrap advertising contract limits coverage of windows to 50%, and that the next light rail wrap advertising contract would have the same limit. This is progress, but not sufficient. The existing wraps on light rail vehicles, some of which have 100% coverage and nearly 100% opacity, are unacceptable. We can’t wait until they wear out or those vehicles are retired, they must be changed now, either by complete removal of the window covering, or modified wraps. STAR, along with transit advocacy organizations SacTRU and Ridership for the Masses have again written to SacRT to express our concern.
The first photo below shows a newer type of wrap, with less than 50% coverage of the windows, sometimes much less. STAR finds this acceptable.

The second photo shows a wrap with 100% coverage and at least 80% opacity. This is unacceptable. And this is not the worst wrap. There is one we haven’t captured yet that is 100% coverage and 100% opacity, and it is a nearly new wrap.
