Civic Thread has obtained a $550K grant from California Air Resources Board (CARB) for study of mobility hub locations for SacRT. The grant is under the FY 2022-2023 Planning and Capacity Building (Planning), Clean Mobility in Schools (CMIS), and the Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP) program. For the grant awards announcement:
Lead Applicant: WALKSacramento, dba Civic Thread
Organization Type: Community-based Organization
Funding Program: Planning
Project Community Location: Sacramento County
Project Name: SacRT Mobility Hub Implementation Plan
Sub-applicants: Sacramento Regional Transit District, Sacramento Building Healthy Communities
Funding Request: $500,000
Summary from application: 89% of Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) light rail stations are situated in disadvantaged and/or low-income communities that bear a disproportionate burden of air pollution and transportation inequity.
The SacRT Mobility Hub Implementation Plan will be a community-driven approach to identify and site which of SacRT’s 54 light rail stations should be prioritized for inclusion in the Sacramento Region’s network of 52 mobility hubs. As the transit provider for the region, SacRT is in a unique position to transform existing light rail stations into mobility hubs that reflect the needs and priorities of each community they serve.
Through equitable community engagement, our Plan will prioritize mobility hub locations and identify improvements to reduce barriers through access to active transportation solutions, EV charging, shared car services, first/last mile programs, and various mobility options including micro-mobility.
Sacramento City Unified School District was also awarded $500K for Safe Routes to School for All.
