Grid 3.0

Grid3_logo-transparentBefore getting back to specific solutions for the downtown streets that have light rail running in mixed-traffic lanes, some relevant diversions to resources that offer or affect solutions.

The City of Sacramento Grid 3.0 Plan is a concept paper that outlines objectives for roadway network, pedestrian network, bicycle network, and transit network, and for each, provides maps of the streets that are recommended for changes and improvements. It does not, however, get down to the design of specific streets.

For the Transit Network, the map below is provided (and as pdf). The map shows:

  1. existing line rail alignments
  2. light rail moved from K St to H St between 12th St and 8th St (and presumably 7th St since southbound Blue Line runs on 7th) in order to accommodate the streetcar
  3. starter streetcar line, and
  4. future streetcar routes.

Of note from the Roadway Network map (not shown) is that 7th St, 8th St, J St and L St will remain one-way streets in the downtown area, but H St will be converted to two-way. There are also lane reductions on a number of streets, usually from 3 to 2.
