Another component of light rail in downtown is the transit plazas, as I call them. There is one on the Blue Line between 7th St and 8th St, another on O St between 11th and 12th St, a partial one on O St between 8th St and 11th St (there is a one lane road on the side), and of course K St between 8th St and 12th St was a transit plaza before it was reopened to cars. 

Transit plazas are great solutions where stations have a lot of ridership and the space is available. It is not clear whether the transit plazas should be expanded, but the ones that exist should be protected.
