What the SVS survey didn’t ask

The survey on Sacramento Valley Station Master Plan Phase 3 asked a number of questions detailed in an earlier post. Most of the transportation and transit advocates who took the survey commented that it did not address questions of greatest importance, and was too focused on developement rather than transportation.

Here are some questions that could have been asked:

  • How to you currently access the station? What direction do you come from? How do you WANT to access the station?
  • What connections do you currently make between different modes of transportation at the station? What connections do you WANT to be able to make at the station?
  • What specific transportation services are not currently available at the station, that you would use if they were? (with a specific list that includes Greyhound and Yolobus)
  • How far are you willing to walk to make a connection between various modes? If there are vertical changes, do you require ADA-compliant long ramps? Escalators? Elevators? People movers? Shuttles?
  • If you bicycle to the station, what direction do you come from? What specific streets or intersections along your route do not feel safe? What improvements would make them feel safe?

It should be noted that the survey does not ask what transportation functions the historic station should be used for, but assumes that it will not have any transportation function, even though most of the restoration was paid for by tranportation funds.

Do YOU have ideas for questions that could have been asked?

The questions from the survey are repeated below, so you can compare what was asked to what could have been asked. Note that without the graphics, the questions make less sense, but we were not able to capture the graphics.
