Folsom Late Night

SacRT is extending the service hours of the Gold Line to Folsom, to run as late as 11:30PM, starting June 17. The service frequency remains the same, 30 minutes. There is a press conference and celebration on June 14 in Folsom. See the SacRT web page for more details.

This is the first step in improving light rail service to Folsom. The additional steps will be double-tracking the line between Hazel station and Historic Folsom so that trains may be run more frequently, and purchasing new low-floor rail cars that will be used on the Gold Line. These projects are a ways off, probably 2021 for both. Another change is scheduling express service that will run to downtown Sacramento in shorter trips, which could be accomplished more quickly, though we don’t know what the date for that is.

Though a justification for extended hours is allowing Folsom people to get into the central city and back in the evening, as a central city resident (Dan), I’m looking forward to being able to go to evening events such as plays and concerts at Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College, and other places in Folsom, which was not possible before.
