Important documents supporting this discussion are on the STAR meetings page.
STAR’s August meeting will be a discussion of transit oriented development (TOD) and how it applies to the Sacramento region. We may have a presentation on TOD before our discussions, bringing us to a better understand of the meaning of and implementation of TOD, and examples from other places. The City of Sacramento has some TOD zones, which we don’t yet know much about, but are of great concern to local advocacy groups including WALKSacramento because the city seems to be allowing incompatible development in them. SacRT has long expressed interest in TOD, but so far almost nothing has happened. The only TOD in the region, so far as we know, is the La Valentina housing at the Alkalai Flat light rail station. The new developments already going in and planned near the 65th St light rail station may also be TOD, but is is not clear how much they are really oriented to transit.
While you are waiting for August, DD offers a publication from the Center for Transit-Oriented Development, Transit Corridors and TOD: Connecting the Dots, that may increase your interest and knowledge.
The August meeting will be Saturday, August 18, 10:30AM to noon, at Organize Sacramento, 1714 Broadway, which is accessible by SacRT Route 51 and the Blue Line (and the meeting location is accessible). We are skipping our July meeting.
