STAR has joined the No on Proposition 6 coalition. Proposition 6 is a repeal of Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, with additional language that would handicap transportation funding in other ways.
Most of the funds in SB 1 are raised by an increase in the gas tax, though other sources are included.
SB 1 is not perfect legislation. It could have allocated more to transit and less to highways. It could have had better accountability and performance measures. But it prioritizes repair over expansion, ‘fix-it-first’, and does include funds for transit. The state is better off with SB 1 than without.
