The Blue Line was extended to Cosumnes River College in 2015. There is a proposal for a ‘South Sacramento Phase 3’ extension into the City of Elk Grove. There are various routes that have been proposed, by SacRT and the city, but there doesn’t seem to be one official route. The one used here follows Bruceville Road south to Elk Grove Blvd (pdf). There are versions that continue east on Elk Grove Blvd, and others which follow Big Horn Road. So far as is known, SacRT has not started an environmental review document that would define one or more potential routes. However, the extension is mentioned in several funding documents.

The three maps below show population density (pdf), environmental justice (LIHM, low income high minority, pdf), and median household income (MHI, pdf).

There is really nothing in these maps to indicate that light rail beyond Cosumnes River College would be a compelling investment. However, STAR continues to insist that all potential light rail extensions be examined to determine the one that increases ridership and best serves people, and this route should be included.
