SacRT bus ridership January 2020

The table below shows SacRT bus ridership in January 2020. This is the last publically available data, and also happens to be just before the pandemic, so is representative of ridership after the SacRT Forward network redesign in 2019, but with traditional commute and ridership patterns. We have requested up-to-date data, and will post that when it is available. The numbers are daily average boarding on weekdays. Weekends are often different because they are lower commute days, and service is often less frequent, or even non-existant.

There are clearly four tiers of ridership: high, with Route 51 Stockton/Broadway and Route 81 Florin; moderate, with several routes over 1200; low, with several routes over 700; and very low, with counts less than 700. This ridership information is one of the inputs to the idea of light rail infill and bus rapid transit or bus enhancement. Unless there is a potential change to service that would move a route significantly up the ridership scale, it is better to invest in already successful routes, to better serve those people already using the route and to attract new people to useful service. SacRT has invested in routes 51 and 81 by providing more frequent service.
