twitter posts against Measure A

In case you are interested, and/or not on Twitter, these are posts that STAR has made on the subject of Measure A, with the hashtag #MeasureANotOK. STAR’s twitter handle is @startransitsac.

  • Existing #SacramentoCounty Measure A transportation sales tax allocates 3.5%, increasing to 5.5% for disabled and senior transportation, including paratransit. Proposed Measure A allocates just 3%, never increasing. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • Proposed Measure A transportation sales tax is sponsored by greenfield (sprawl) developers and major construction companies who want #SacramentoCounty taxpayers to pay for a new freeway to access their developments. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • Proposed Measure A transportation sales tax obligates SacRT to provide bus service along the Capital Southeast Connector to mitigate the greenhouse gases generated by increased vehicle miles traveled and low density development. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • SacRT requires as a minimum the equivalent of one-half cent sales tax to operate an effective and equitable transit system. Proposed Measure A transportation sales tax guarantees that funding will never reach that level. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • Proposed #SacramentoCounty Measure A transportation sales tax elevates Green Line to the Airport light rail over other potential light rail and bus routes, though it has a much lower potential for ridership and equity than others. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • Proposed #SacramentoCounty Measure A transportation sales tax projects will likely cause region to fail to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets, according to SACOG and CARB. All transit agencies in the six county region may lose state and federal funding. #MeasureANotOK
  • SacBee @sacbee_news is opposed to Measure A transportation sales tax. It will increase driving, pollution and sprawl while costing taxpayers $8.5 billion dollars. Promoters are trying to subvert the democratic process to meet their desires. https://archive.ph/X0chA #MeasureANotOK
  • The @CityofElkGrove is proposing Measure E sales tax to meet a variety of needs expressed by the community. Doesn’t that seem like a better idea than a traffic and sprawl inducing Measure A? #MeasureANotOK
  • The projects in the Measure A Transportation Expenditure Plan (TEP) will add or expand freeways, interchanges, and roadways, making it impossible for transit to compete with subsidized motor vehicle travel. One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • SacRT General Manager Henry Li acknowledged “that maybe I even have doubts” about them, suggesting that the transit projects being sold to voters may not be realized. https://archive.ph/X0chA One of many reasons STAR opposes. #MeasureANotOK
  • Urban infill has the greatest potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but Measure A does not mention and does not support infill, but does support low density exurbs. From @CoolClimateNw #MeasureANotOK (GHG reduction potential graphic referenced, below)
