It has been common practice for the board to cancel one of its two monthly meetings, therefore meeting only once per month rather than twice. So if you are planning to attend a meeting, in person or online, check the Current SacRT Board Documents page before you do.

Meeting Time

Board meetings now start at 4:00PM. Typically, board meetings last one and one-half hours, but they can be as short of 30 minutes, and can go much longer, on controversial topics. Board meetings are posted on the STAR Events page as well, and we endeavour to keep it up to date.

At the December 11 meeting, a new board meeting time was announced, starting at 4:00PM, for all board meetings in 2024. When questioned, staff implied that this decision had already been made by the board, but a review of board agendas doesn’t show it. It was also stated that a study had been done that indicated 4:00PM would have the greatest attendance, though no such study has been provided. It may be that this if for the convenience of the board members and not the public, but it is uncertain.

STAR does not have any position on meeting times. It recognizes that any meeting time with present conflicts for some people. An alternative that is used by some transit agencies is to alternate daytime meetings with evening meetings, so that everyone can attend some meetings, though of course if a meeting important to you is at the other time, it doesn’t solve the issue.
