Transit Transformation Task Force

Please see the post for today (2024-01-04) on Streetsblog California: Task Force Meets to Address the Future of California Transit. The post highlights three issues of critical importance to transit riders:

  • revenue sources, which will be insufficient after the one-time SB 125 funding boost runs out
  • workers, particularly operators, who are underpaid and increasing subject to violence
  • better measures of transit efficiency, as current ones do not effectively capture efficiency

The task force and a report was mandated by SB 125 (scroll down for the task force info). Led by CalSTA, the process is just beginning, and will culminate in October 2025. The 25 member task force has four transit advocate organizations, five non-governmental organizations, two legislature representatives, and the rest are transit or transportation agencies.

STAR thinks that the outcome of this process will be incredibly important to all transit agencies in the Sacramento region. All of the agencies show significant weakness in addressing operations issues, and will greatly benefit from state leadership in meeting the challenges of the future.
