The City of Sacramento Measure U Community Advisory Council will meet Monday, May 20, 5:30 PM. The city’s funding for RydeFreeRT program, which the city manager has proposed for elimination, is part of Measure U, Youth: Citywide Support section of the budget, page 11 of agenda item 4: Overview of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/25 Measure U Proposed Budget.
If you support the city’s existing support of the RydeFreeRT free student transit fares program, please speak up for it at this meeting, either in person or via eComment.
City staff and council members have claimed that this shortfall in the program can be made up for by contributions from the school districts. But until replacement funding is identified and in place, no reduction should be made to the city’s contribution. The city, SacRT, and school districts have not presented a plan to the public for full funding of the existing RydeFreeRT program. That means this budget reduction item should be removed from the city proposal.
