Helen O’Connell has been given the Top Banana Award for 2024. The award if from Ridership of the Masses (RFTM), one of the Sacramento regional transit advocacy organizations. Helen is a member of the SacRT Mobility Advisory Council (MAC), Sacramento Transit Riders Union (SacTRU), Disability Organizing Group for Initiating Total Equality (Dogfite), Resources for Independent Living (RIL) and others. She is a passionate advocate for transit to better serve disabled riders, and for it to serve everyone better as well. She also advocates for SacRT operators to be paid well and treated well by SacRT.
The award was given in a ceremony outside the new SacRT headquarters on Q Street. She was joined by several friends and members of the MAC.
