Avoid Watt/I-80?

Due to construction on Watt Avenue, and the Watt/I-80 Blue Line light rail station, it is awkward to access bus Route 1 Greenback, Route 26 Fulton, Route 84 Watt, and Route 93 Hillsdale in the southbound direction. From light rail, you must use the east stairs or elevator, then walk south along a narrow sidewalk on the east side of Watt Avenue, cross Watt on a slow traffic signal at Longview Drive, then walk north on the west side of Watt on a narrow sidewalk. The crosswalk at the I-80 on/off ramp is signed as closed. The bus stop is on a narrow sidewalk with no wait space, and can be very crowded at some times of day, particularly when students are traveling to school.

Northbound buses are not affected, they still stop at the top of stairs or elevator on the east side.

Watt Avenue is one of the most highly trafficked roads in the region, so walking along it is not a pleasant experience, between noise and motor vehicle pollution. If you can avoid the Watt/I-80 station and bus connections, you will be happier.

  1. Great care needs to be taken when walking this at night. While days are getting longer, it’s still really dark after 6:00pm during evening commutes.

Lighting for the segment on the east side of Watt south of the light rail station is very dim to non-existent. Using a flashlight is strongly recommended here to get to that first corner.
