SVS Commuter Bus Stop Consolidation Project

The City of Sacramento is undertaking a SVS (Sacramento Valley Station) Commuter Bus Stop Consolidation Project, using TIRCP (Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program) and SacTA (Sacramento Transportation Authority) Measure A funding.

The project will reduce the number of commuter bus stops, and consolidate commuter bus service to these fewer stops with better amenities. It will add shelters/canopies at these bus stops, and digital signing. By having fewer stops, more money can be spent on each stop. Though transfers between commuter buses is not common, the consolidated stops make this easy.

Most importantly to STAR is that bus stops will be in the traffic lane, not bus pull-outs. Bus pull-outs delay buses, and create hazards for the bus and all traffic when re-entering traffic. STAR policy is that pull-outs should not be used except possibly at timed stops where a bus may need to wait to get back on schedule, and bus layover points.

There have been two workshops so far, one for the PBID(s) and one for the community. STAR was not able to attend the first community workshop, but intends to attend the next, and will have more to report at that time. We do not know if this project will affect regular fixed route bus service.
