The Capitol Corridor JPA, with partners SacRT, the City of Sacramento, and Downtown Railyards Venture, has received a $3.4M grant from the state under the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP).
These funds will be used to create a connection between the rail platforms and the area to the north, where the old railyards are, and the infill development that will occur there.
Please see the Capitol Corridor blog at https://www.capitolcorridor.org/blogs/get_on_board/sacramento-valley-station-improvements/ for more information.
Separately, but related, the California Transportation Commission recently re-routed Prop 1-A funds that had been diverted to the terminated streetcar project, back to their original use in providing better connections from this station to the state and meeting high speed rail when it eventually comes to Sacramento. Most of that will be used for light rail modernization and some for SVS, but we don’t know at this point the allocation.
SacRT also received a TIRCP grant of $23.6M and is combining that with other funding to purchase 20 low-floor light rail vehicles. See https://www.sacrt.com/apps/sacrt-purchases-new-low-floor-light-rail-vehicles/ for more information.
