SacRT schedule display for buses!

The new bus shelter on L Street in front of the new SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center (between 14th Street and 13th Street) has a bus arrival sign. I am not sure whether it is displaying real-time information or schedule information. The indication for SacRT bus 30 was not correct, it did not arrive when indicated, or for 10 minutes after. So far as I know, this is the only bus arrival display for SacRT buses. Yolobus has at least one in West Sacramento. If you know of others, please comment.

The display has two lines for bus info. It also has an audible announcement of the same information.

I’ve not seen any information from SacRT about this, so I don’t know if it is a single location, or a pilot program, or the first of many. Let’s hope the first of many.

It is not usually possible to take photos of digital signs with digital cameras, so the photo below just shows the sign and not the information on it.

  1. Information from James Drake, Principal Planner, SacRT:
We have 13 of these digital real-time bus stop signs. They were procured as a small pilot in 2019 and rolled out at the same time as our new bus network. I suspect you may have missed the announcements, amidst the other big changes we had at that time, such as our new bus network and our Ryde Free RT program!

The sign at L Street & 14th Street that you mentioned was recently moved from 9th & K Street. We noticed after relocating it that it was not outputting correct information, and updated its configuration, which we believed had corrected the problem. That was about a week or so ago. If you observed it malfunctioning since then, there may be an issue we’re not aware of. I am out of town but will have someone investigate today or Monday if I can.

Regarding the sign program, the first batch of 13 were funded with a competitive pot of local funds awarded by SACOG. We are in the process of procuring a second round of signs with some additional state funds that we had leftover from another project. We presented this to our Mobility Advisory Council earlier this year, although the project has been a bit delayed over the summer. We hope to have them out early next year. Some of the new locations will include Sacramento International Airport, Arden/Del Paso light rail station, Watt/I-80 light rail station, and 65th Street light rail station. I’m glad to hear you’re excited about the signs. If you want to see more of them in service, some of our other existing locations include J & 16th Street, 29th & N Street, and 30th & R Street, as well as several other locations around our service area.
