SacTRU, in cooperation with other transit advocacy organizations, is hosting a Transit Stop Visioning Workshop on Saturday, October 30, at Organize Sacramento.
We hope that STAR members and other transit advocates will join us this Saturday!
The purpose of the workshop is to:
- Educate the community about transit stop amenities
- What makes a good transit stop?
- Gather community input from transit riders about amenities they want to see at transit stops they use
- Include all transit agencies in the Sacramento region, not just SacRT
- Include light rail and bus
- Include other issues such as transit frequency, stop spacing, and sidewalk access, if we have time
Due to COVID-19 concerns, and our hope that more people will attend than can be comfortably fit into the indoor space, the workshop will be held in the Organize Sacramento ‘backyard’ at 1714 Broadway, Sacramento. The workshop will be held 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Please check the weather beforehand, come dressed appropriately, and check the SacTRU website and Facebook page for possible weather-related cancellation. As of the moment, Saturday looks good.

Below is a brief presentation on the workshop, which will not be shown at the workshop because we’ll be outside, but is something you may wish to review ahead of time.

There are also documents you may wish to review before the workshop. The Sorry to Superb document is the one to look at if you only have time for one.
- From Sorry to Superb: Everything You Need to Know About Great Bus Stops, Transit Center, 2018; https://transitcenter.org/publication/sorry-to-superb/
- Design Guidelines for Bus and Light Rail Facilities, SacRT, 2018; https://www.sacrt.com/apps/sacrts-bus-and-light-rail-design-guidelines-figures/
- Transit Street Design Guide, NACTO, 2016; https://nacto.org/publication/transit-street-design-guide/

The workshop was successful in gathering a lot of good information and thinking. But attendance was low. There will be an opportunity coming up for the community to comment on the list of amenities that was developed by the workshop. There will also be posts on two innovative ideas developed during the workshop. Stay tuned!
