The area north of the American River, which the Truxel Bridge would serve with light rail and perhaps bus service, is currently served by four bus routes. Route 11 Natomas/Land Park (45 minute frequency) serves south and north Natomas, mostly along Truxel Road. Route 13 Natomas/Arden (45 minute frequency) serves south and north Natomas, mostly along Northgate Blvd, Del Paso Road, and Truxel Road. Route 86 Grand (30 minute frequency) serves south Natomas. Route 88 West El Camino (30 minute frequency) serves south Natomas, mostly along West El Camino Blvd. 45 minute frequency is usually considered unacceptable level of service. Routes 11, 86, and 88 use the I-5 bridge to cross the American River, while Route 13 does not cross the river.
If the Truxel Bridge existed, it is not known whether the three bus routes would be re-routed onto this bridge, or remain on the I-5 bridge. It is also unknown whether a transit-walking-bicycling only bridge would also carry buses, or only light rail.
Since both of the routes which serve north Natomas are 45 minute frequency for most of the day, with brief commute periods of more frequency service, bus service is not considered satisfactory by riders. The south Natomas bus routes are 30 minute frequency, and generally considered acceptable though not great.
